What is a bespoke illuminated mirror?
A bespoke illuminated mirror is a mirror manufactured to a specific set of requirements — custom dimensions, shape, LED lighting specification, IP rating and finish — rather than selected from a catalogue of standard sizes. For hotel and luxury residential projects, bespoke manufacturing ensures the mirror integrates precisely with the room design, meets the technical requirements of the installation zone, and delivers the lighting quality expected at a five-star standard. Bespoke does not mean expensive relative to the end specification — it means that every parameter is controlled rather than compromised.
IP ratings explained: IP44 vs IP65
IP (Ingress Protection) ratings define how well an electrical product is sealed against moisture and particulates. For bathroom mirrors, the relevant ratings are IP44 and IP65. IP44 is suitable for Zone 2 bathroom installations — areas more than 60cm from the edge of a bath or shower. IP65 provides a higher level of water resistance and is suitable for Zone 1 installations, including wet rooms, spa environments and commercial washrooms with direct water exposure. All Lumos Mirrors are available in IP44 as standard, with IP65 configurations available for spa, wet room and commercial applications. Your electrician will confirm the zone classification on site, but we can advise based on your project brief.
Tuneable white LED lighting: 2700K to 6000K
Colour temperature — measured in Kelvin — describes the warmth or coolness of light. 2700K produces a warm, amber-toned light similar to a traditional incandescent bulb; 4000K is a neutral white similar to morning daylight; 6000K is a cool, blue-toned light similar to bright midday sun. For hotel bathrooms and residential en-suites, tuneable white LED systems allow guests and residents to adjust the colour temperature at the touch of a control — shifting from a warm, relaxing atmosphere in the evening to a crisp, flattering preparation light in the morning. Lumos mirrors offer tuneable white as a standard specification, typically ranging from 2700K to 6000K. CRI (Colour Rendering Index) is equally important: our LEDs achieve CRI 90+ as standard, ensuring makeup, skin tones and materials appear accurately under the mirror light.
Mirror demister pads: how they work
A demister pad is a thin resistive heating element bonded to the rear of the mirror glass during manufacture. When powered, it raises the glass surface temperature a few degrees above ambient, preventing moisture from condensing on the surface. The result is a permanently clear mirror, even immediately after a hot shower. Demister pads are silent, consume 18–60W depending on mirror size, and are designed for continuous operation. For hotel specifications, demisters are non-negotiable — a fogged mirror is a failed guest experience. Lumos includes factory-fitted demister pads as standard on all hospitality mirror specifications. Demisters can be wired to activate with the mirror illumination, independently, or via a timer depending on installation requirements.
How to specify a mirror for a hotel project
Specifying a mirror for a hospitality project involves more than selecting a size. Key considerations include: installation zone and required IP rating; desired lighting specification (colour temperature range, CRI, dimming capability); demister requirement; finish and framing (frameless, metal-framed, specific RAL colours); any smart upgrades such as Bluetooth audio, touch controls, or integrated displays; and volume and delivery timeline. For large projects, pre-production samples are available to confirm finish and lighting quality before full production begins. Technical drawings in DWG format are provided for architect and contractor use.
