Lead Times for Custom Illuminated Mirrors: What to Plan For

Why Lead Times Matter in Mirror Specification
Unlike standard bathroom accessories, bespoke illuminated mirrors are manufactured to order. Each unit is built to the specific dimensions, specification, and finish required by the project — which means production cannot begin until the design is signed off and the purchase order is placed.
For hotel projects, where mirrors are often among the last items specified but among the first needed on-site for room sign-off, understanding lead times from the outset is essential.
Typical Lead Times by Order Type
| Order Type | Typical Lead Time | |------------|-------------------| | Single sample / prototype | 3–4 weeks | | Small batch (1–20 units) | 6–8 weeks | | Mid-range project (20–100 units) | 8–10 weeks | | Large project (100+ units) | 10–14 weeks | | Express production (subject to availability) | 4–5 weeks |
Lead times run from receipt of purchase order with approved specification. They do not include design and approval stages.
What Affects Lead Time?
Complexity of specification: Mirrors with standard features (backlighting, demister, touch control) have shorter lead times than those requiring unusual shapes, integrated AV components, or specialist finishes.
Frame and finish requirements: Custom powder-coat colours or specialist metal finishes require additional processing time.
Order quantity: Large orders may need to be phased across multiple production runs, though this can often be scheduled to align with a phased fit-out programme.
Sample approval: If a physical sample is required before production, add 3–4 weeks to the timeline plus the sample sign-off period.
Planning Recommendations
- Flag mirror specification at RIBA Stage 2 to allow sufficient time for design development and sampling.
- Issue purchase orders no later than 16 weeks before your required on-site date for large projects — this gives a 4-week buffer against the 12-week production window.
- Confirm site electrical provisions before placing the order to avoid specification changes mid-production.
What Happens if the Programme Slips?
If a project is delayed after production has begun, completed mirrors can be held in our warehouse facility. Storage can be arranged for up to 12 weeks at no additional charge for confirmed orders.
If a project accelerates and earlier delivery is needed, contact us as early as possible — express production slots are occasionally available.
